Talking Jesus and School's 160th Birthday Service

Today (3rd March 2017) we had a very special service in St Mary's Church, Gainford. We were celebrating all the work the children have been doing in school as part of the Talking Jesus Project as well as the School's 160th Birthday.

The children have been doing lots of work imagining that they were a character (or even a tree!) in a Bible story. The children sang hymns and some new songs; they showed some outstanding art work and even screened videos they had made where they were featuring in a modern 'take' of a bible story.

Rev Eileen led the service and her husband Brian played the piano. As well as the children being involved, some of their parents read readings, prayers and poems and also 3 retired teachers were invited to come to the front at the end to blow out thee candles on a special school birthday cake. It was a real team effort.

We had some special guests from the Blackburn Diocese - including Bishop Julian. Two of our guests came back to school afterwards and Class 4 asked them some very tricky questions that included 'if God made the World, who made God?'; 'If God gave us life, why do we die?' and 'Where did the water go to after the great flood?'

It was a marvellous, memorable and special morning - and we even got to eat the cake!!
