Felting Triptych

As part of our 160th Birthday celebrations the children have been working with local artist Sara Cox to produce a beautiful picture of the school. The picture is made using a felting technique and has been made in three parts so it is called a triptych. The beautiful coloured panels contain portraits of the children. The blue and green colours at the bottom of the picture represent the River Tees which flows close to the school and the green fields around Gainford. The flags on the chimney have the following words on them:- empathy, kindness, play, create, explore and learning. All these concepts and ideas were the childrens' thoughts on what was important at our school. The children made the felt out of a variety of breeds of sheep's wool but the fine white fibres in the felt are made by unravelling the cocoons of silk worms! Thank you so much to Sara for all her hard work and for Mrs. Riley who organised the project and sought the funding from the Area Action Partnership.
