School Governor Role
We have a strong and supportive governing body working with the Head Teacher in raising school standards through three key roles of setting strategic direction, ensuring accountability and monitoring and evaluating school performance. Together with the headteacher we set the future direction for the school and decide how the school’s budget should be spent.
We make decisions collectively on matters such as performance targets, school policies and the school’s development plan. As school governors we monitor the impact of policies and oversee the use of the school’s budget.
We report to parents on the school’s achievements and respond to inspection recommendations. We also hear appeals from pupils and staff and consider any complaints. Governors provide the headteacher with support and advice, drawing on our knowledge and experience.
We ask searching questions and respect the headteacher’s position as professional lead. We currently have a full complement of Parent Governors, but if a position becomes vacant the school will invite parents to apply.
Governors are always open to suggestions and new ideas, but please remember
that we have a strategic role. If you would like to know more or have any
